Day 1: Castles, Canals, and Tivoli Magic

Stop at TorvehallerneKBH, a modern food market known for Danish specialties, bakeries, coffee stands, and smørrebrød (open-faced rye bread sandwich often topped with pickled herring, shrimp, roast beef, or eggs).
Optional add-on: Visit Christiansborg Palace to explore the palace ruins and climb the tower for panoramic views across Copenhagen.
Take a canal cruise to experience Copenhagen from the water while passing landmarks such as The Little Mermaid, inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, along with the modern waterfront architecture of the Copenhagen Opera House and colorful harbor districts.

Late Afternoon/Evening
Spend the remainder of the day inTivoli Gardens, one of the world’s oldest amusement parks. The park combines rides for all ages, gardens, playgrounds, games, decorative lighting, live entertainment, and family-friendly dining within a compact and walkable setting.
Day 2: Pedals, Palaces, and Danish History
Experience Copenhagen’s bike culture, royal traditions, harbor landmarks, and family-friendly museums while exploring both historic and modern sides of the city.
Consider renting a bike for the day to easily travel between sites during the morning and afternoon. Copenhagen is highly bike-friendly, with dedicated lanes and abundant parking near major attractions. Families with young children may wish to rent bikes with child or toddler seats.

Begin at Kastellet, a star-shaped military fortresses where families can ride or walk along sections of the grassy ramparts while enjoying harbor views, windmills, and open space.
Continue to nearby photo stops at The Little Mermaid, Copenhagen’s famous statue inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, and Gefion Fountain, a fountain featuring Norse mythology and large animal sculptures.
Next, visit the Round Tower, a historic observatory tower known for its wide spiral ramp leading to panoramic city views.
Optional add-on: Follow the ceremonial royal guards as they march through the city toward Amalienborg before the changing of the guard ceremony.

Begin the day at Den Blå Planet, or The Blue Planet, known for its immersive marine life exhibits that showcase both warm tropical ecosystems and cold Scandinavian/Arctic aquatic environments.
Optional add-on: Have lunch at Reffen - Copehagen Street Food, a large open-air street food market with stalls offering dishes and snacks from across the world.
Afternoon and Evening
Spend the afternoon and evening at Amager Beachpark, a long stretch of coastline known for sandy beaches, shallow swimming areas, walking and cycling paths, and water sports. Families and active travelers can rent kayaks or stand-up paddleboards to explore calm areas, or simply relax by the water and enjoy the beach atmosphere.
As the evening approaches, enjoy a relaxed waterfront dinner nearby while watching sunset views over the Øresund Strait. During summer, the area remains lively well into the evening with swimmers, cyclists, and locals gathering along the shoreline.
Alternate Plan for Late Fall/Winter and Animal Lovers
Begin the day at The Lakes, a series of interconnected waterfront paths that separate the historic center from surrounding neighborhoods. Enjoy a bike ride, playground time, bird watching, or a stop at a bakery or café. Then head to the Copenhagen Zoo, which is known for its elephants, polar bears, giraffes, pandas, Tasmanian devils, and modern exhibit spaces.
Optional add-on: Older children and teenagers may enjoy visiting The Cisterns, a former underground water reservoir transformed into a contemporary art space known for immersive installations, darkness, reflections, and atmospheric sound design. Cisternerne is generally open from mid-March through November.
Spend the afternoon relaxing in the gardens of Frederiksberg Palace and Gardens, a large landscaped park known for canals, bridges, open lawns, ducks, playgrounds, and scenic walking paths.
